The main characters in the novel are twin brothers, called Fazel and Kamel, who live in Abadan on the borderline. When Iraq started to bombard the city during the war, their family decided to emigrate to a safer place. The twins could not get along with the decision. One of them, Kamel, goes out of the city with his family, but the other brother, Fazel, stays there to defend the city along with his elder brother. But his brother was martyred and he had to take more responsibilities, such as aiding the wounded, helping at the kitchen, and supporting troops. On the other side, Kamel went through many difficulties emigrating from his hometown and did not reach the utopia he had in mind. It seemed that the war had split those individual souls in two and neither were in peace.
